Rethinking Responsibility: From Good Intentions to Carbon Capabilities
Masterclass presented by Prof. Angela Sutan
Sustainability is no longer only about what governments and companies can do, but also about what each of us, as individuals, is capable of doing. This masterclass explores the emerging concept of carbon capabilities: the knowledge, skills, resources and agency needed to turn sustainable intentions into action.
From mobility and consumption to energy and digital use, we will examine how everyday choices are shaped by constraints, incentives and social environments — and ask a central question: What am I capable of doing, and what would enable me to do more?
Key takeaways
| ✓ | Understand the concept of carbon capabilities and how it can help turn sustainable intentions into meaningful action. |
| ✓ | Explore how everyday decisions around mobility, consumption, energy and digital use contribute to our environmental impact. |
| ✓ | Identify the constraints, incentives and social environments that influence our ability to adopt more sustainable behaviours. |
| ✓ | Reflect on the conditions, resources and individual agency needed to expand what we are capable of doing for a lower-carbon future. |
