Presentation
How to recognize and mitigate biases in decision making?
Masterclass presented by Prof. Marwan Sinaceur
Decision biases—individual errors and systematic distortions in judgment—affect all of us, often without our awareness. Examples will be drawn from both classical and recent empirical research to show how these biases influence decision making.
This masterclass focuses on practical, evidence-based ways to identify and reduce cognitive biases in decision making. It explores how our perception, prior assumptions, and mental shortcuts can systematically influence our choices, often without us noticing.
You will discover:
- Why we often seek confirmatory evidence rather than disconfirmatory evidence
- How the way we categorize or frame a problem influences what we see
- The Availability Bias and how it affects our assessment of frequency or probability
- The Anchoring Bias and how prior numbers can influence current estimates
Leave with a practical understanding of common decision biases and tools to make judgments that are more objective, accurate, and reliable.
